The African Journal of Engineering Education (AJEE) is a peer-reviewed International Journal published biennially by the African Engineering Education Association (AEEA) in partnership with he envisioned to disseminate the output of Research on Engineering Education. Without engineering, there can not be any meaningful development and development requires research; hence the purpose of engineering education research is to learn how to impact knowledge of the engineering content.
The Journal publishes manuscripts in a wide variety of research areas including:
(i) Engineering Epistemologies (Engineering think and knowledge within social contexts and into future;
(ii) Engineering Learning Mechanism (Engineering learners’ development knowledge and competences in context);
(iii) Engineering Learning Systems (Instructuralcuture, institutional infrastructure)
(iv) Engineering Diversity and Inclusive (How diverse human talents contribute to the social and global challenges and relevance of the engineering professions) and
(v) Engineering Assessment (Development of assessment methods instruments and metrics).
The Journal has an Editorial Advisory Board Constituted by eminent engineers and researchers spread across the globe and accept original contributions from authors in the global engineering community. Authors are encouraged to summit manuscripts that typically include description of the problem formulation, the establishment of an appropriate model, methods of problem solutions, results and applications of interest to ideal practice.
Authors are admonished to prepare their manuscripts in line with the Authors’
INSTRUCTION TO AUTHORS
TEMPLATE
Ensure you use the templates for MSWord get them from our website at: http://www.aeeaonline.org/author_instuction.html
PAPER AND MARGIN
The paper size for presentation of all submission is A4 size. The margins should be 25.4mm (1″) on all sides . You must contain all text matter and ay figures within the area and ensure that the margins are consistent on all pages. Paper margins must be equal on both sides and equal on the top and bottom. Do not use corner/tick marks.
MAIN TEXT LAYOUT
You should set the main text in 12point Times Roman or Times New Romans (Normal), not in bold, using 1.5 line spacing. All text should be produced as a single column and JUSTIFIED throughout.
THE FIRST PAGE
This contains the title of the paper, the author names, organization. Only email address of the corresponding author should be included with the abstract, keywords and the first part of the paper.
Star the title of your paper 30mm down from the top specified typing area in Times Roman font, size 14 point bold, centralize. The first letter of each word should be capital except for noun, preposition, etc. that must be all in lower case letters.
Follow this (with one 16pt line space in between) on a new line, with the ‘authors’ names without degrees or qualifications, in Times Roman font size 12 point, normal centralized (see example pages for style where several authors at different organizations are contributing) in Times Roman font size 11 point, centralized, italic.
Now start the abstract, with the heading two line spaces below the last line of the address and set in Times Roman, size 12pt bold, first letter only in Capital. Leave one line space and the start text of the abstract, set in Times Roman fonts, size 11 point, italic justified with single line spacing. The abstract will consist of approximately 300 words. It must not run over onto the next page.
* Please ensure that you enter your name(s) in FULL: i.e. with your surname (family name) coming first.
KEYWORDS
It is essential that you supply maximum keywords that best describe the unique content of your paper. These will be used as part of your paper. These will be used as part of the search facility for your paper globally in electronic Libraries.
Leave two line spaces between the last abstract line and the keywords. Set the keywords in Time Roman 11point italic as in the following example:
Keywords: emission sources, trace and heavy metals, anthropogenic concentrations.
HEADINGS
Headings should be set aligned left, as shown below. Please number your headings using the system below.
1. Main section headings
These should be set in 11pt Times Roman bold, with one complete line space above and below. The text following a main heading should not be indented.
1.1 Second level headings
These should be set in 11pt Times Roman bold, with one complete line space above and below. The text following a secondary heading should not be indented.
1.1.1 Third level headings
These should be set in 11pt Times Roman bold, with one complete line space above, but none below. The text following a third grade heading should not be indented.
1.1.1.1 Fourth level headings
These should be set in 11pt Times Roman bold with one line space above. Leave two character spaces after the heading do not insert a full stop and run the text on, as shown here.
PARAGRAPHS
Paragraphs should be set with one complete line space above previous.
DISPLAYED EQUATIONS
All equations must be clearly set. Please note that you may include the use of punctuation that you may include the use of punctuation, and commas between different parts of the same equations in the text, preface the number with he word ‘eqn’ or ‘eqns’ and place the number within brackets i.e. eqn (1). Display equations should be numbered simply (1), (2), (3), etc. The numbers should appear at the right of equation, flush with the text on the right side. Do not set them in bold type. Please ensure that subscripts and superscripts are clearly legible.
Equations should be embedded in the text where they add value to reading and understanding of the paper.
TABLES
Tables must be set as part of the text, but smaller type sizes may be used, provided they are clearly legible, to enable the table fit the space. All tables must have a caption centered over the table. If the caption is more than one line, then the second and subsequent lines must be left aligned with the first word of the caption and should be set justified. Captions should be numbered sequentially starting with number 1; i.e. Table 1: In-put data. Leave one line space above and below tables. Large tables may be set landscape, i.e. sideways on the page, reading up. Do not set captions in bold.
FIGURE CAPTIONS
Tables must be set as part of the text. Caption to figures, (photos, diagrams, and/or illustrations) should be set text size and centered below the figure. If the caption is more than one line length please follow the alignment style as given in the table captions, above. All figures must be numbered sequentially starting with number 1, i.e.
Fig. 1: Interactive funding model and performance feedback
Leave two line spaces between the caption and the text. Do not set captions in bold or italic.
PHOTOGRAPHY’S ILLUSTRATIONS, FIGURES DIAGRAMS AND MAPS ETC.
These must be integrated within the electronic file and positioned in the correct part of the page. If you have original drawings or photos you must scan them and place them in the file.
Photos and figures etc. should be place either at the top or bottom of the page type area, positioned centrally on the width of the page and close their text reference.
They should not appear on the opening page (first page) or after the references and must fit within the page text area. Try to avoid boxing text between two illustrations on a page as this can sometimes make reading more difficult. Please ensure that all spelling and annotations, (numbers, letters, symbols and captions) conform to their usage in the text.
COLOUR ORIGINALS
We do accept colour originals, but be aware that we may only reproduce them in black/white in the book of proceedings. You should consider the conversion to black and white carefully, for what may appear to be clear when in colour e.e. multiple lines on a graph, may make little sense when viewed in black only. Coulour figures must be embedded in pages of your paper.
REFERENCES:
References should be collected at the end of the manuscript/paper in numerical order of appearance in the text and set in the following order: Author surname, initials, title, publication, volume, page range, year. The first citation in the text should correspond with the first bane on the reference list. In the text a reference is shown by the author’s name, followed by the number in square bracket on the same line (e.g. Funke, 5). Refer to the examples included with these instructions.
Do check your final paper to ensure that references within the text correspond to the reference list at the end.
CONSISTENCY OF STYLE
Be consistent in the use of punctuation, figure, capital letters and abbreviations, and even more importantly in nomenclature and symbols.
LANGUAGE
It is important that the grammar and spellings of your paper is correct. If English is not your language, please have a native English speaking colleague to check your paper for you.
When finished, double-check the whole paper thoroughly and ensure that all figures, captions, tables, equations etc. are legible, as these often present problems.
