OBJECTIVES OF THE CONFERENCE
This Forum is to provide a platform for educators, professional organizations and industry leaders from all over the world in general and the African Region in particular, to discuss and proffer solutions to common problems in engineering education. Also, the Forum will critically examine approaches to teaching, learning and curriculum
structures that would advance engineering education in resource constrained environments like African nations. It is anticipated that the Forum will foster exchange of information, links, and collaboration between member nations on the one hand and the restof the world on the other.
Currently, graduates from most African Universities may find it difficult to compete globally because of the inherent challenges in the training institutions. The major challenge confronting academics is to produce with limited resources global engineers that espouse attributes found in the notions of innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainability. The Forum will deliberate on tangible ideas on how to produce with lean resources, engineers with necessary skills and orientation that can compete globally.
SCOPE OF THE FORUM
The scope of the Forum will be broad, covering all aspects of engineering education. The world has become a global community, which now provides more opportunities for collaboration. The increased level of globalization of engineering education has provided academic institutions with new opportunities for cooperation in the international arena by building new and expanding existing, regional and global networks for engineering education. The Forum contributions will focus on the following three sub-themes:
1. GENERAL ISSUES IN ENGINEERING EDUCATION
- Engineering curriculum for facilitation of human resources development
- Effective methods of training engineering personnel
- Innovation in engineering education and research
- Application of new technologies in engineering education
- Workplace/industry learning and development
- Engineering education for sustainable development
- Engineering education for employment in a globalizing economy
- Future of engineering education
- Funding and capacity building of engineering education
- Techno-entrepreneurship in engineering education
- Innovative pedagogy in digital era
- Infrastructure and Technologies for Engineering Education
- Role of regulatory bodies in the advancement of Engineering Education
- Management of engineering education in tertiary institutions
- Governance, and leadership
- Policy, accreditation, regulation, and mobility
- Diversity and inclusivity
2. ACADEMIA/INDUSTRY COLLABORATION AND PARTNERSHIPS IN ENGINEERING EDUCATION
- Industry requirements of engineering education
- Social and philosophical aspects of engineering education and its impacts on the society
- Academia/industry interaction programs
- Role of Industry in Curriculum design
- Internship facilities and opportunities
- Industry involvement in the design and development of laboratories related to new technologies in engineering faculties
3. INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION IN ENGINEERING EDUCATION
- Transfer and sharing of experience in engineering education
- Recognition of foreign qualifications
- Accreditation systems for engineering programmes
- International mobility of academic staff and students
- Technology linkage between developed and developing countries
- Regional collaboration in engineering manpower development
- Impact of globalization on engineering education in developing countries:
It is anticipated that the proposed papers will present findings describing the effectiveness of new approaches to engineering education and industrial training. The implementation of special programs, methods and modern approaches to engineering education and industrial training is of particular relevance to the Forum.
